Need ideas for type of floor to use under a wood stove?
We have a limestone rock wall behind the stove but not sure what to use to sit the stove on. Would prefer a low profile possibly half circle (perhaps porcelain)?

End Grain Cobble Block Wood Tile Flooring
Just wondering what people thought about our end grain wood tile flooring idea. So many different ways to lay out. What's your favorite?
Porcelain or ceramic tile would work. The wall is gorgeous!
Your local building codes probably speak to that. Usually the stove is on a raised platform covered in natural stone or heat resistant tile. The stove manufacturer may also have a recommendation.
Porcelain, ceramic tile, granite, slate, concrete, any stone product. Seth is correct but your floor looks like concrete so you can go directly on it with no problem.

"Under National Fire Protection Association Code 211, a raised hearth must extend at least 18 inches on all sides around the stove to give adequate floor protection." If your stove heats your hearth to over 100°C, or it hasn’t been tested, the required thickness of your hearth increases to 250mm, otherwise it only must be 12mm thick.
Additionally, you must pull the stove out 36" from the wall OR...you must have the back wall 36" out from each side of the stove covered in non-combustible material.
Your limestone wall section looks beautiful but does not look wide enough to set the stove back to the wall. If you move the stove out so the back is 36" from the wall you will be taking up a ton of space from the room just for the clearance. I suggest you continue the limestone wall so that it's wider, allowing you to place the stove near the wall.
For a cool, modern design for your hearth, few can achieve this like a glass hearth. These are a stylish and contemporary choice that provides a safe surround for solid fuel stoves. The benefit of glass is that, if you have a stone hearth, it’s almost guaranteed to be dark in color, meaning you may “lose” part of your floor. Glass hearths are also easy to clean.
You could add to the concrete floor to raise the hearth section and do an acid wash finish on it.

I also think any type of flat, glazed tile - especially large tiles and/or no grout tiling - will be beautiful and the finish will be "fresh" over the typical slate, brick, etc.
Hi there! You can purchase heat mats that are rated for pellet and wood stoves depending on the look that you're going for. Raised platforms are really popular and can look really beautiful!
I would use a slate for sure
Porcelain tile work best east to clean and fire proof
You could use brick, porcelain tile, cinder blocks.
Hope this is helpful:

Ceramic tile or porcelain would definitely work.
You can go with floor tile. Just check for heat resistance.
Seth is right, check with your local building department and they’ll set you in the right direction.
We have a ceramic pad under our wood stove. Bought it the same time we got our wood stove to ensure a perfect fit and good looks since it was in the front room. Cost was under $100.
Floor and Decor has beautiful stones, Everything from ceramic, porcelain [which would be my choice] to granite and marble. Just make sure whatever you purchase is heat resistant. Also check with you local building codes.
I put in a lot plywood frame and then added slate tiles. Meets fire codes.
I would choose a natural stone similar to your wall.
Hi Debbie, IF your floor is concrete (as it looks like it is) you cn purchase a nice looking ceramic pad for the area beneath. Here's a company who offers them for sale.
