Popcorn ceiling

Moxie on Jan 19, 2014You will need to scrap off the popcorn texture first. Popcorn ceiling texture is a spray on material that will crumble off when it gets wet from the application of to the stomping drywall mud. If you go over it, the new texture will only stick as good as what it is applied to.Helpful Reply

Anna on Jan 20, 2014Unless your ceiling has been painted the popcorn removal is messy but quite easy to remove. If painted it just takes longerHelpful Reply

Jean Adams on Jan 21, 2014This ceiling should be tested for asbestos. I found a place that charged $50.00. If the house is newer, than say 1950, it is probably OK, but I was not willing to take chances. Suggest you google popcorn ceilings/asbestos for more information. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Matina V on Jan 22, 2014I took down popcorn ceilings in two rooms recently and it was unbelievably easy! Unless it's been painted and then I guess it's very hard. You just spray with water in a spray bottle and scrape off.Helpful Reply

Matina V on Jan 23, 2014I think you can also have a layer of thin drywall put up over it, that might not be too expensive.Helpful Reply

Jean Adams on Jan 24, 2014There is a good chance it does not have asbestos. Why not spend the money we have all wasted on a bad dinner and have peace of mind? If you can get moisture under the paint, removal should be easy as before. Good luck and good health. Resale value is through the rood without that ugly ceiling.Helpful Reply
