If they are going to pay to remodel it next year, I would throw a large rug over it and use grip tape (Home Depot) to hold it in place until then.
Hi Ecl. An inexpensive update would be using peel and stick vinyl tiles. If the current floor has damage you may need to remove it because you will need a clean, flat surface to lay the tiles. Good luck!
How To Lay a Peel and Stick Floor
It would be a total waste of money to try to "fix" your ugly floor in a rental which is going to be remodeled next year. And it could be a violation of your rental agreement to do anything to the floor without permission of your landlord. Use your limited funds to buy a rug or rugs to cover the worst of it until after the remodel. Pick your rugs and sizes to go with your decor and that will fit in other rooms once the remodel is done. Best of luck.
I know what you mean by damaged floors. One option that is not too expensive and you can take them with you when you leave - and they are vinyl wood look planks. They lay on the floor and float which means they will adjust to any floor if it is not super damaged. Good luck.
how about a bath mat? or a runner style rug?
Use Vinyl plank flooring that "floats" on the floor, and you can take it with you or use in another area.
