the Sheetrock underneath the ceiling is in good condition except it isn't completely flat (Looks just slightly warpped.)

We just removed all of the popcorn ceiling in our 1973 home. It was not fun but by the last room we were professionals! Here are some tips that we found made the process A LOT easier! First off, if you don't want to repaint your walls, tape them all off with plastic. This is a very messy process. The next thing is to scrape the tips off of all of the popcorn. We used a large drywall tool, about 12 inches long and scraped, very hard, the entire ceiling. This allows the moisture to get into the popcorn and makes it come off much easier. Our ceilings had been painted so it was even more difficult. After scraping we started soaking the ceiling. We started doing this with a vinegar and water solution but soon realized it worked just as well with just warm water. We saturated the ceiling. I mean we soaked it! We sprayed it 3 times before we even started scraping. Typically one of us would scrape and one would keep spraying. To scrape we used a 6 inch putty knife. Sometimes it came off in small pieces and sometimes you would get lucky and large sheets would come off. It's a long process but it can be done! I hope this helps!
