A Different Kind of Head Planter!

I made a planter out of a dollar store canvas, wire, gauze and plaster (actually pre-mixed joint compound), and then epoxied it so I can use it for plants, the opening on top fits a 4" pot perfectly and I have a plastic drain tube to allow water (drainage) to run out the bottom of the canvas frame.
Step 1 : I painted the canvas white with primer and then a left over semi gloss paint. I epoxied it because I knew I would have problems getting it all AFTER he face was on.

Step 2: I have an old hairdressers mannequin head and pressed wire over it because I knew it needed to be strong to hold the plants. If you cannot find one cheap on-line they usually sell them or give them away at hairdressing schools

Step 3 I took a roll of 2 inch medical gauze and embedded it with joint compound (or pre-mixed poly-fila) and started covering the make making sure to play up the features a bit.

Step 4 : I epoxied the inside of the face - NOT the outside

Step 5: I put the "face" on the canvas and positioned it where I wanted it.

Step 6: I used some big "dentist" gauze and unfolded it - covered it in joint compound and draped it over parts of the edge of the face and attached it to the canvas.

Step 7: I left it dry for about and hour and came back and added more "decorative" gauze to strengthen the attachment to the canvas and make it look "cool"

Step 8: After letting it dry overnight, I applied a coat of 2 part epoxy (The kind the sell for re-doing countertops) and let it dry.

I made a plaster cast mask of my MIL cancer radiation mask (she wanted it turned into artwork as a final wish) ... I used mesh tape and joint compound to adhere it. I will be painting it and adhering paper flowers to it. Would you still recommend 2 part appoxy as finish or do you think I could get away with a few coats of acrylic paint and a clear coat?
