An Herb Toolbox.

Spring is just around the corner and soon it will be time to start planting (at least that's what I keep telling myself!)
Last year I put together this herb garden toolbox for my Mother in Law for Mother's Day. I started with a large old toolbox that had definitely seen better days.
I painted it with Fusion mineral paint in a color called Laurentien, and then used a dark wax over that to add some depth and patina.
I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage (drainage is essential for healthy plants).
I used my Cricut machine to cut the word "herbs" out of some white vinyl and adhered it to the front of the box.
I used one of my favorite tricks for filling a large planter so that it doesn't get too heavy. I used empty soda cans and plastic juice bottles as filler before adding the potting soil.
Next came the dirt and some herb plants from my local nursery.
I used some chalkboard label picks to identify the herbs, and tucked some pretty vintage china in at the back just for looks.
And voila!
My mother-in-law loved it. She kept it outside in the elements all summer and it held up very well. Check out my blog post about this project for more details (please note that the Fusion paint giveaway took place last May and is no longer running).

Are u worried about leeching from the metal or plastic bottles?? I have a big metal drum I was going to use as a planter but my landscaper said lead could leech into my herbs.
