Did I just kill my Calla lilies?

I planted a calla lily in a large pot last summer. It has multiplied and is growing like crazy. It is now blooming and today I went in and dug up the furthest one away from the others and repotted it. I then separated a few more that were a little more attached and also repotted them. I just read that it is advised not to separate until later in the summer or in the spring and before they bloom. Did I just kill the lilies I repotted? My main one in the large pot is still there with many more that multiplied. It just looked like it was getting over crowded :(

  • No you did not kill them, you may have stunted their growth for this season, but they will recover. Calla lilies are one of my favorites! They do not do well at my house - so happy you can grow them! 🌞🌿

You should have waited.the only thing at this point is make sure you keep them in indirect lighting to recover as most likely they will go into shock.do not over water

Hi Kathy......I live in the Chicago area, and dig up my Calla Lily bulbs after they bloom and the stalks are browning. I store them over winter in a dark place that wont freeze , (like a basement ), in a brown paper bag, and replant them in late spring. If you dig up the over crowded bulbs , they may not be as mature , as necessary to replant next year.
