cut off old and dead wood but it is best to wait until fall after them bloom try walterreeves.com he has every answer for gardening
Lower down the stem, just above a leaf. A new shoot will come out where the leaf meets the stem and you will get more blooms.
Take the branch back to the next node.
Its usually suggested to cut back to a 5 leaf branch on the stem.
