If you want color use annuals with spring and early summer perennials and blooming shrubs. Hot weather annuals are a little slower to bloome but they last until frost.

I like zinnias and marigolds. I live in middle TN. They seem to hold up well here.

Do you want annuals, perennials or both?

I prefer perennials over annuals but I am not opposed to adding a few annuals for additional color.

So as the season is coming to a close my advice is to research what is hardy in your zone based on light and temperature for perennials.Since annuals are coming to the end for a temporary idea plant autumn flowers such as cabbage/kale/winter pansies etc.

I just bought Pentas and they come in many colors and are perennial in Florida. The bees and butterflies like them, too. They are semi-tropical & my area is 9B.

I lived in Georgia for 14 years and know that heat! We had lots of azaleas in our yard, that were beautiful in the spring! We also had hydrangeas that did well without any care.

Hydrangeas are one of my favorites too.
