I have 6 young beautiful rose bushes. Is there something I can do to protect them from the cold, wind and snow

Cover with burlap...mulch around the plant first

  • I do a thick layer of mulch around mine. I’ve never had to cover with anything else (I live in Texas). If you have very hard freezes, wrapping in burlap is a good option.

You can also use straw and storage containers or other containers depending on size of rose bushes.

I live in Idaho and winters can get down to -11 so this is how I protect my roses. This will work no matter the size of the bush and will work on any plant that you want to protect from the freezing cold. Make a cylinder out of chicken wire or other wire to place around your rose bush and then fill the wire cage with leaves straw or any other dry vegetation. Make sure to fill in around the base of the plant from the ground to about 6 inches up the plant really well this is where the cold will hurt the plant the most
