I’m in Washington and have various plants in pots that need to come in for the winter. Do I treat them as houseplants then? Thanks !

  • Yes you do, bring them in at night for a couple weeks to get the plants used to being inside. Once they're indoors full time (when temps drop to 45 at night) cut watering in half and stop feeding them

I grew up in Washington and we always brought fuchsias into the shed over winter. They will basically go doormat, keep the soil moist but you shouldn't have to water very often because your climate is so damp.

Hi Connie. I'm Cindy. Start the process now. Begin by carefully spraying your plant to knock off any pests hiding in the leaves. Then bring them inside (the plants, not the bugs. ha ha) and store it in a cool dark space. Basements and attached garages are best. (Aim for 45 degrees to 55 degrees.) Water it about once a month. The soil should be moist but not soaked. It will look like it's dead, but remember that it is not. The last thing to do is to bring it out of dormancy. About a month before your last frost, bring it out from where you have it stored. Cut the stems back by half. This will encourage new growth, which, in turn, will mean more blossoms for the summer. Connie, I hope this helps. Wishing you well.
