How do I get Lily of the Valley to grow?
I love Lily of the Valley and have had very little success growing it. I live in MO and have planted it in a shady area, fertilized it but it just won't grow. I also need some help in how to keep my cats from using the fresh soil for their bathroom!! Even when the cats stayed out of the garden, it still wouldn't grow. Suggestions??
Thanks!
Shirley

I have done landscaping for40 years and never heard this question. I've only been asked how to get rid of it!
put chicken wire over top of soil to keep cats out plants will grow up thru it;Preferring partial shade and a moist but not wet soil, growing lily of the valley is easy if you know how and when to plant. That being said, these plants are adaptable and will grow very well in dry shade too. Lily of the valley can also be adapted to full sun(more wet) or full shade(less wet), depending on the amount of moisture it receives.it is a poisonous plant, so keep it away from children and pets.I love Lily of theValley too but cannot grow it here in the desert area I live it just needs the good hard freeze you get. What part of MO are you in I was born in Rolla
DON'T!!!! In my upstate NY garden it is extremely invasive and difficult to get rid of.
