You can purchase Japanese beetle traps; but be sure to locate away from plants you are trying to protect. Lowes , Home Depot, Home Hardware, Ace Hardware all carry them. Empty traps into a bucket of soapy water to kill the pests.
Also can just knock the off the plants ( they ‘fall down’ when disturbed) into a container of water and dish soap. They will drown. Can use the ‘bodies ‘in your composter—it’s about the only thing that’s good about these pests.
Spraying the affected plants with soapy water also deters them. You have to be diligent though—these guys are really, really stubborn about leaving!
