As long as it drains well, your hydrangeas should be happy.
Most hydrangeas will thrive in fertile, well-draining soils that receive plenty of moisture. Add compost to enrich poor soil. Generally, hydrangeas prefer partial sun. Ideally, they will be given full sun in the morning, with some afternoon shade to protect from the hot midday sun.
The best soil for Hydrangeas is a rich, well-drained, moist soil all the time. The water level requirements are a bit tricky insofar as they require moist soil at all times, but not wet. As a result of these moisture requirements, they thrive in areas that receive morning sunlight and then afternoon shade. Shadier areas keep the soil cool which helps retain moisture.

If you want pink blooms, keep the pH above 7 so it is basic. If you want blue blooms, then add a pH lowerer like sulphur, and then you'll be blue blooms. It may take a few years to get a color change (from my experience). I've always wanted blue blooms and always got pink. I added a pH reducing fertilizer and sulphur for the last 2 years and fINALLY got blue blooms. I actually got a mix of pink, purple and blue blooms which I loved! But if my garden was ALL blue, I'd be happy!
All I can say is they are acid loving so I add coffee grounds.
Good draining soil
Good rich soil that drains well, but don't overwater. We don't do much, except we do add fresh mulch around the beds each season and it keeps the water in and decays over time to enrich the soil.
