We had this same issue this year. We just grabbed a drill bit and used our power drill to drill one in the center. We did this on many pots and not one cracked.
DO NOT PUT STONES IN THE BOTTOM,THAT IS A OLD TALE,PLANTS ROT.....plant in another pot with drainage and place in the ceramic pot.make sure there is no standing water on a daily basis

Put several stones in the pot first, about 20, then put your soil in, then your plant. If you don't over water it, it'll be fine.
