I have climbing roses that have never bloomed, why?

Roses need potassium to bloom. I feed my roses all summer long with potassium and people commonly stop when I am out working in my yard to comment on my roses. The easiest way is my way, I put banana peels back behind them and leave them there every time we buy and eat bananas. You can puree them in a blender, but my roses do so well, they do not show at all. Hope this helps.

You might be over fertilizing them. Take a soil sample to your county extension office and have it tested.

I agree with Kathryn...also remember that climbing roses bloom best on canes that are growing laterally ...like along a fence.

If you've had a few flowers, I agree you may need to change your fertilizer, but If you haven't gotten ANY flowers after five years, I don't think you will. How disappointing, climbing roses are so beautiful.

and it may depend on the variety of rose -- some plants only bloom on 'new' growth and if pruned at the wrong time of year, you may be cutting off the next seasons blooms -- also, get a soil sample as suggested -- too much fertilizer may be putting their growth into 'green' and not into 'blooms' ---just like with Tomatoes -- a 'hungry' tomato produces well -- over fed with the wrong ( too much nitrogen ) and you have a HUGE GORGEOUS! Tomato PLANT -- but no tomatoes!!

Some climbing roses bloom on second year wood, so if you cut back all the branches you could be loosing the blooms that way. Are they getting enough sun? If they're in a too shady area, that could be another reason for no blooms.

Thanks everyone for the information. I will try the banana peels, They are full sun, fertilizing twice a year, don't think that would too much. Have gone two seasons without pruning to no avail. So I will give them a while longer then up it will come.
