Ask at your local nursery or garden center. Maybe get your soil tested to see if it needs feeding. Or do you live some place where it doesn’t get cold enough in the winter?

Hi Lisa. I love lilacs. Have they ever bloomed for you? I planted some years ago at my previous home and I was concerned because they never bloomed. Four years later, I was surprised to see and Smell lilacs out my kitchen window! It seems the variety I had took a long time to mature. But, I enjoyed them after that for many years, until I moved away. Wishing you much luck with yours.

Thank you both! I do live in MO, so the winter is very cold. I remove the dead wood and I have thought about the soil also. I will check into that.

Lilacs bloom from older branches so if you can let them alone no trimming would be good,if you need to trim in spring only new growth, they need lots of full sun. Give them a gallon of miracle grow water soluble fertilizer every 4 months around base of plants. My great aunt had huge ones with a tunnel cut thru center they smelled so glorious when they were in full bloom. One of my all time favorite smells.I miss them(live in AZ now) I have to use Yankee candle Lilac scented smells dead on like the real deal.
