    Hi Mary,

Maybe use Silk flowers in amongst Real evergreen foliage, if you don't have the time, but need the look. Remember the better quality you buy the more they will convince.......

If you live in Florida, try oleander, a flowering bush. It has brilliant flowers and is hardy. Caution, though, it is poisonous.

Bulbs! Plant them and forget them. Flowering shrubs are another of my favorites.

    How about some cacti?

    Perhaps a bonsai?

I can suggest them, but I can't keep an artificial flower flower from dying!!

No, bulbs don't work here in the south because it doesn't get cold enough Oct to Dec for them to go dormant and bloom in the spring. I planted 200 tulip bulbs and not one came up due to that very reason. They need that cold snap in order to bloom. So moving forward Id plant perrenials rather than annuals because perrenials come back vs. annuals dying off. I did a beautiful butterfly garden which is low maintenance. I used milkweed which butterflies love and feed off of, pentas which come in many colors of red, pink, purple and white, day lilies in yellow and orange, any kind of cone flower such as black-eyed susans etc.

Shady areas....impatients (they bloom all summer). Also butterfly bushes..they attract butterflies and are beautiful! Marigolds can grow in any soil, but you're limited in colors. Wave petunias...they bear about all summer too. These choices I have thrive in Virginia...I don't know about further south.
