It can be cool but not lower than 50 degrees for short period of time , needs sun.

Heat is definitely not necessary, as long as the plant doesn’t freeze. The begonias may not bloom all winter, but they will be healthy for Spring. Best wishes! ☺️

All my plants go into a temporary green house that I put up every year by using a pop-up cabana and surrounding it with 3 mil. plastic wrap. For those plants that are in the ground I also cover them with 3 mil. plastic by building a small frame around them then attaching the plastic wrap to the frame. The frame can be easily removed for watering when needed. You can make your frame using wood, chicken wire, or both. I actually use 4 tree limbs that needed to be cut and tie them together at the top and wrap them with the plastic. Little Tee-Pee green houses.

Hi Sue, Your begonia in the picture looks like it's outside. I hope it's actually inside, since I'm practically your neighbor (Grand Rapids) and as you know it's been darn cold out. Back to the care of your begonia, it shouldn't be in temps less than 60 degrees and should be in filtered sunlight not full sun. Should also be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings and a slow release fertilizer (Osmocote) about half way through winter would give it a boost come spring. Happy indoor gardening. 🌸 Your friendly Master Gardener/Master Naturalist
