Should you cut back knockout roses

I cut mine down to about 12" every Fall or Spring, then I keep them trimmed all summer or they will go crazy growing so fast.

I'd asked this recently as well and most posted sites explaining NOT to prune back until late winter, early spring. So, I'm just going to have to live with my buggy leafed/scraggly rose bushes till spring I guess! But yes, I do cut mine back a bit during the growing season as the above post-er mentioned!

In Alaska, we cut back a lot less. We have a much shorter growing season.

Cut back in spring to encourage growth and more flowers. Doing it before winter means they might start shooting out new growth too early if the weather is mild.

I have heard to cut them back in the fall down to about 1.5 - 2 feet. I cut mine back to about 1-1.5 feet.

and they seem to be okay for now.

Michigan here. We don't cut them back until spring, usually late April or early May. They can be trimmed down now but I don't mind the branches peeking thru the snow.

I'm getting ready to wack mine back this week... Then they will bbe ready for spring with a little help from Epsom salts...

In South Carolin I have been told February.

Texas here! Mine are still blooming! Course it’s been in the 80’s and 90’s. I cut mine back in February or March to encourage new growth. Plus we have such a long growing season here that they would grow out of control if I didn’t keep them cut.

My neighbor runs a 3rd generation Nursery.

(At his house) He cuts his the day after the last Spring frost.

During the summer, his wife trims each flower as it dies, so the bushes look clean.

They never cut after the 1st frost. Said it could kill the bush within 3 yrs.
