Marigolds....don't plant anything that would draw bees or wasps....or you won't get any mail. Or why not try artificial flowers...no watering or bugs
Marigolds are nice. The bigger sizes would work well and need little care.
I love all the varieties of daylilies. I would definitely put in perennials. You can always put annuals in around it, depending on how much space you have. The daylilies have nice foilage even when not blooming. Some water is good when it is dry. Just a bucket or two weekly. And my mom's weren't bothered by the road salt. Very important when the plows dump the salty snow by your mailbox.
Some plants I have in my all afternoon sun garden (100+ in the Summer) ~ Daylily, Marigold, Catmint, Shasta Daisy, Liatris, Lantana, Sedum, Cosmos, Rosemary, Alyssum, Geraniums, Snow in Summer, Lambs Ear, Gaura, calendula, asparagus fern, African Daisy, Cranesbill, Mallow,..just to name a few ♥ Have fun!
