Heather, I would wait until fall, when the weather is more moderate. Don't prune or shape it too much or you risk loss of flowers next year. I overpruned one year and it didn't flower at all for 2 years.

  • about 2 weeks after blooming, the plants will start to form buds for the next spring/summer in the fall/early winter.

thanks. Will do it after blooms or in the fall. No summer heat stress makes sense.

After blooming season and I always do this in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
