It's called blossom end rot & it's caused by a calcium deficiency. It happens when the planet doesn't get enough calcium from the soil when their planted. Vegetables need calcium to grow right. Sometimes using to much fertilizer causes the plants to grow to fast & the calcium can't make its way into the plant quick enough. Also vegetable plants grow better in soil with a Ph of 6.2 to 6.8. Those with blossom ends the PH should be 6.5 to 6.8. That will free up the calcium in the soil. You can get fast acting lime which is better than ground limestone. You can buy a kit to test your soil & you can also add ground up egg shells into the soil. Also be careful about watering. Vegetables need between 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water a week epically when the plants are fruiting. You can also buy plant calcium spray. Spray it on the seems & vines. The calcium spray works better on tomatoes than on other vegetable plants. Hope that helps!

Crush up all your egg shells and add them to the dirt around the tomato (and squash plants) gently dig them into the soil. Also, Tums crushed up and added to the soil works great. Both of these are high in Calcium.
