Probably a fungus from too much water--lots of rose care things are available!

I had rabbits eat the leaves off my roses....leafcutter ants will eat leaves off also. Are you watering the plants enough?

This may depend on the heat, soil, and temps outside. This is a diff. yr. for many states. This is hard to say, tho I would start with digging 2" of soil away from the main trunk of rose, and putting the fresh peat soil., give this a bit of fresh water, then cover it in more black soil, or even put leaves that are dead between the layers of black dirt. This will help give it a boost also. Best wishes, J.
