Raise your hand if you are also in mid-mourn mode over losing our hot summer nights... *sob*

On the wet coast, the rain has begun which can extend for months on end. So as you can imagine, I fought the loss of my fav sitting area outdoors. It has a cover from the elements, however it can get chilly.

So I decided to try and be out there as long as I could, and got busy cozying things up.

First up, the image of plaid screams cozy flannel... so a couple of plain placemats got a fun and easy stencil treatment!

Next, blankets, pumpkins, wreaths, propane fire pit... you name it, it all came outdoors too.

The result is one very cozy little fall corner to indulge in pumpkin spice everything!

Come on over for a tutorial and a tour while the (you know what) latte is hot...
I fell hard for the texture of these rattan placemats! But had an idea to help cozy them up a little more...
A buffalo check stencil was used to create a super cozy plaid! It only took a few minutes to do, and turned out pretty spectacular, despite the heavily textured surface.

How to buffalo check:
  • Start in the middle of your project.
  • Then line up like minded squares to continue the pattern in all four directions.
2nd, I desired to make a different pattern on the second placemat. A two-toned plaid design stencil did the trick!

How to plaid: (2-piece stencil)
  • The thin lines were stenciled in white first.
  • Once dry, the thick lines were stenciled on top with black, creating a fun 2-toned look!

3rd, I protected the placemats so they'd be wipeable with a fav top coat of mine.

Tough Coat by Fusion Mineral Paint was used, which is water based with no fumes.

I use it a lot for reclaimed wood, and was so pleased it worked equally as well for the placements! It even helped to enhance the tone of the rattan.
Well, now how cute and cozy are they? Now, let's really warm things up to celebrate fall...
My pallet sofa got stuffed to the rafters with pillows and blankets to snuggle up under.
For added warmth, the little propane fire pit was brought out of hiding, situated by the pallet chair.

A few rustic wreaths were hung inside some reclaimed wood windows with a sprig of grapevine threaded through each one.
Pumpkins and gourds were the final sprinkling of all things fall!
Pumpkin pie, anyone?
Tired of pumpkin spice everything? Remove the fall touches and you have a pretty cozy every day too!

Now, all we need are some nice fall days... think the weather would cooperate if I invited it for coffee?
