do I dig way down so that the tomato plant doesn't touch the epsom salts?

Add 2tbs Epson salt to 1,gallon water .I pour it on the soil after I planted the tomato . Good luck .

You can stir and mix it into the soil (2 TBS or so) before putting the plant in the hole. You can water it (2 TBS to a gallon of water) after planting. Then water with the same mixture every week to ten days. Tomatoes need a lot of it, also calcium (pureed egg shells) mixed in the same water.
