The plant needs to be protected from high winds. Set it close to hedges or other taller growth. Keep it in a pot if you want to bring it in for winter. 😇
I have mine on a deck rail. It gets filtered sun and is 10 years old. This is what it looks like every year. I pinch it back and put in other pots or various places downstairs
Filtered or dappled shade is best as full sun will burn the leaves. If you keep it in the house, full sun is fine because it is less intense than full sun outside. I just gave away a Christmas cactus that was well over35 years old. Because some bloom at the USA Thanksgiving in November (Canadian one is October) and blooms at Easter, they are sometimes called Holiday Cactus up here and not Christmas Cactus.
They do not like bright sun, it will ruin the plant. I have all of mine in hanging planters on my lanai (in Florida). They are protected from sun, rain, and wind. They grow the best in the hanging pots as there is lots of room for them to grow out and hang down. Mine bloom several times a year, depending on when we have those short cold spells. Let them dry out before watering. They are a cactus and don't like to be drowning in a lot of water. Below is a picture of one that was just starting to bloom around Easter. It had both red and white plants in it.
