Hello. I like to transplant Hostas as soon as they start coming up. If you decide to split some of them it is easier to do before the leaves open up.
Do it in the Spring as you begin to see them start coming up. You can take a shovel and break them up. It will probably take another year before you see them really take hold, so be patient.
