Can anyone identify this vine?

Terri Hancock on Jul 11, 2016It looks like what we call a porcelain vine. If it has little grape like clusters of balls that turn different colors, that's it. Very beautiful, and bees love it. But, it spreads like a weed. http://vnps.org/unwanted-unloved-porcelain-berry/Helpful Reply

Resa Silha on Jul 11, 2016I think Terry Hancock is correct. Google "images of porcelain vine" and you will see. It also comes in variegated.Helpful Reply

Edward on Jul 11, 2016You will also want to google Oriental Bittersweet Vines. Very invasive. One variety has multicolored clusters of balls that birds eat and spread to other areas!Helpful Reply

Linda B on Jul 12, 2016Don't believe it's the oriental bittersweet; google images for that, and they're very different leaves. And it's not quite like the porcelain vine either. I'm intrigued.Helpful Reply

Linda B on Jul 12, 2016One of the plant experts on the Plant ID group on FB says this is Cissus trifoliata - Cow Itch Vine. You can google it to learn all about it.Helpful Reply

Danielle Brault on Jul 12, 2016I have a feeling it might be a weed - here is some info - https://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiYkpuere7NAhVX5mMKHUzzAysQjxwIAw&url=https%3A%2F%2Ffldpi.wordpress.com%2F2013%2F03%2F&psig=AFQjCNFakRHdRpSoAgikeWnbxUV96HgDgQ&ust=1468427425119099Helpful Reply

Terri Hancock on Jul 14, 2016If it is porcelain vine and you like feeding birds, they love the berries. Here's another brief article. The leaves and clusters look more like your photos. http://vnps.org/unwanted-unloved-porcelain-berry/ It's a great vine for privacy. It spreads quickly and the berries are very beautiful. It is, however, invasive. I removed one from the side of a porch 15 years ago, where the previous owners had let it get out of control. I'm still pulling up stray vines from my yard.Helpful Reply

Sharolyn T on Jul 15, 2016Wow everyone! I had no idea about any of these plant names you have provided!! Grape ivy, Possum grape, Cow-itch vine, Sorrelvine, Arizona grape ivy, porcelain vine...whoa...I'm so glad I asked about this plant, I've enjoyed looking up all the websites you included in your answers. I just love 'Hometalk members' you are so willing to help out with advice or things like plants we have no idea about! Thank you all so much!! After looking at all the photos and info, I'm pretty sure my plant is one of these in the 'cow itch'/wild grape family. I never did find if these are safe to eat or not, tho the birds like the tiny fruit. Again...thank you for taking time to answer my question!Helpful Reply

Linda B on Jul 15, 2016Honestly, ladies, a botanist provided the ID that I shared earlier. You can trust his identification of the plant as Cissus trifoliata, no matter the common name. It's NOT a grape, and it's NOT porcelain vine.Helpful Reply
