Hi Roxann, I have a tall cactus that is a second generation from the "mother" plant. A friend of mine gave it to me as a house warming gift. It was about 5 inches tall. I planted it right away. It is still in that same pot but now that it's almost 3 feet tall, I will be repotting it soon.
if you pull a leaf from your cactus, you should dip it in rooting hormone and then in a well draining soil
Yes! https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/desert-rose/desert-rose-propagation.htm
Yes you can. Put the broken stem in some root starter before you replant it.
Just remember Desert Roses LOVE to be root bound, that's when they make those wonderfully fat knobby bases. They can stay in the same pot for years, repot them up so there's only 1/2" - 1" space around bulbous part. You can make them branch out by just cutting back & making new ones. I asked the nursery that raises them here in Florida how/when to water them, owner said "when it rains in Phoenix ", and he was serious! They're super cool plants!
Take a cutting from the tip of a branch. Allow the cutting to dry out for a day or two, then wet the end of the desert rose cutting and dip it in rooting hormone. Stick the cutting into a well draining growing medium like perlite or sand mixed with soil. Water the cutting daily, making sure the water is able to drain out of the soil. Use a spray bottle and mist the cutting daily as well. The cutting should take root in about two to six weeks.
i broke a branch of by accident. I just stuck it back with n the pot and crossed my fingers. That was a couple years ago and it is still going strong.
