The top of my Japanese maple is dead. Can I cut it off?
7 year old Japanese maple tree that appears to be healthy but the top is dead.
Any spent (dead) flower can always be deadheaded. If they hydrangeas have been on the stems all winter, just clip them immediately below the flower. Do not cut any stems/stalks yet. This year's flowers generally grow on last year's new growth so be patient.
Wait until the new new starts to emerge to be able to distinguish what dead wood needs to be pruned
