Can I cut the dead flowers off my hydrangeas in the spring?

    Any spent (dead) flower can always be deadheaded. If they hydrangeas have been on the stems all winter, just clip them immediately below the flower. Do not cut any stems/stalks yet. This year's flowers generally grow on last year's new growth so be patient.

    Wait until the new new starts to emerge to be able to distinguish what dead wood needs to be pruned

    I cut mine off in the winter and they spring back every year without any problems .

    I do mine in the winter and never have a problem - in fact I've got new leaves sprouting already btw not sure how old this post is but its February in the UK right now..and chilly to say the least...
