they will die down naturally
I let them die down naturally in fall, then clean up the dead leaves in the fall, if I can get to them before the weather turns and it snows. It looks neater for the winter, and I'm not raking them up in spring, when it might damage the emerging hosta leaf tips sticking out of the ground.
i don't cut mine back, and i do remove debris in the spring, after the new leaves are up.
I always cut with a lawnmower in the fall because they are ugly after they bloom. Works great and believe me they will come back in the spring!
Hello. I do cut my hostas down for fall clean up. You don't have to but I think it looks more clean to cut them down.
I have cleaned them up both fall and spring...both worked but the fall cleanup looked fuller and cleaner during the growing season
I do what Dfm says. I do a cleanup in my yard in the spring when new growth starts. It's really a personal choice.
I cut mine back. Have been doing it for years without a problem.
I tend to wait until the spring
thanks, it got too cold too soon to cut back in fall
