Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

This vine grows every year and seems to choke my other plants. I have tried to rip it out but it seems to have solid roots.

  • I am a die hard vinegar user. But it will kill anything in the immediate area. Find out where it starts, cut off and dispose the vine and drown the area in epsom salt and boiling water or straight vinegar.

You will have to dig down far enough to get the whole root or dig as much out as you can. Soaking the ground overnight should help with the digging as the soil won't be so hard to work. Then, pour a lot of salt in the whole to try and kill the rest of the root.. It may take awhile to see if the salt worked. If not, you may have to keep cutting it back every year to keep it down. Looks like grape vine. Not sure how to kill it. Cut it off low and try some amonia on it.

I think it is a grape vine. You could try pulling it out of the ground, roots and all.

    Yup..mustang grapes. They are HARDY!!

Not a fan of toxic chemicals but they can and will kill off even huge, healthy oak trees. Round up...or round up for poison ivy. If you don't kill it right away, the battle will resemble a land war in Asia.

I really think it is a grapevine. Put up a trellis, and let it climb up. You may have some good grapes. I know l have something like that , it is just a vine that grows wild, and l have to keep pulling it out, but never can get the roots.

In Florida here, we call them "choke vines". They will, indeed take over every plant and tree they can get to. We have sprayed the ones (that come over our fence from the neighbors' side) with vinegar and water. It took 3 times of spray to kill those on our side.

Others are right. You need to find the bulb and kill it. Otherwise it truly will take over everything in your garden.

It's a grape vine, possibly either a tame one a previous owner planted or a wild grape or a once tame grape vine gone native. If it's wild or gone wild it may produce tiny grapes that won't be fit to eat. Either way they are very hard to get rid of unless you get the root out and the roots of any runners it may have put out over the years! If you can't get rid of it put a trellis up and twine it on it. The leaves are pretty and and will make a nice back drop behind your flowers and once it dies back in the fall and winter months you can cut the vines out and make pretty wreaths with it among other things.
