Outside my window (2) My hibiscus plant is growing so tall it is practically covering my window. It is so beautiful but wondering just how tall have you seen them grow? I guess it's time to cut it back. Would you?
Outside my window. I can't help but appreciate and love mother nature!
It stands 7 foot.
Then I looked over by the wall and dirt and saw this lovely surprise blooming
it's a beauty
Love the colors.

I cut mine back every year; sometimes twice

@Carol I see. It grows pretty quickly. What height do you cut it at, approx.?

I keep it at no more than 5 1/2 to 6 ft. tall, otherwise I wouldn't be able to reach high enough to prune. Mine is just in front of my screened in front porch and it provides some privacy as well as the pretty flowers.

They are beautiful. But I would cut them back to a foot or so, below your windows. You can cut them back several times a year. See how they branch where you cut them back. It really does not hurt a plant to trim them back, it stimulates growth.

They will definitely get big. The more heavily you prune, the longer it will take the plant to come back into bloom, so pruning more frequently, but less severely, is a good way to go with hibiscus.

I can appreciate the merits of keeping the window visible (curb appeal, sunlight, etc.) but it's hard to imagine what could be a prettier view! :) I LOVE Hibiscus!

We have 5 in a row on our back fence and they are so pretty. I talked my hubby into leaving them alone last year and not pruning. Big mistake. the white one got so big it was leaning on the one next to it and almost pushed it over. Needless to say he had to severely recently and it doesn't look as nice in shape, Soooooo, trim regularly we say rather than what we did.
