How can I create a Monarch garden in a small space?

Question

I have an area 24‘ wide by 42’ long in between my house & garage that I want to create a safe haven for monarchs. My vision includes an egg sanctuary where bees and birds and other bugs won’t eat them. I want to be able to teach out of this space, the need to help the Monarchs flourish once again. Really need help to do this!!

Birds don't eat monarchs because they are poisonous to them. Seed saver has a lot of great milkweed.

Not sure what you're doing with those center blocks but they would make a good frame for a raised bed. I would clean up the space first then look at your usable materials and start sketching out a concept. Raised beds would make it easier to maintain and you can deign beds at different heights to make a more creative space.

Plant lots of milkweed!

Find out what milkweed is native to your area and plant lots of it. Caterpillars can strip all the leaves off a milkweed in no time (but plant will survive), so don't let them run out of food! You'll also need nectar-providing plants for the butterflies. Glad you are doing this. We have lots of monarchs in our yard year after year and it is still a thrill to have them flying around and even landing on us! Have fun. You are doing a good thing.
