You need to do some research on the type of plants you have to figure out what you are doing wrong. Sometimes it's just the wrong plant for your area too.
I have planted 2 rose bushes 2 different times and no matter what I did they died. The second time I put them in a big pot but still died. I don't know what it could be.
Check with your county extension. Also google your particular plants. Your extension can give you some information on how to improve your chances for healthy, long-lived plants. Googling your plants can get you some good details, as well. If you come over a society devoted to your plant, then you have a good source, because the members want to grow the best of the plant they know.
If you see sites whose Internet addresses end in .edu, then you have a university site, and they also can give you a good set of clues to help you with your plants.
If you have a consistent issue, take a soil sample to your local nursery to be tested for nutrient issues. Good luck!
