CACTI & SUCCULENTS LOVE warm to hot weather. Just keep them watered 1ce a week in hot weather, every 2 weeks in fair to cloudy weather. Cacti love all day sun whereas succulents like the morning sun. A simple soil combo I use for mine is 50/50 Miracle Grow Potting Soil & Peat Moss (Walmart brand is fine). Once combined, add a tsp (per wheelbarrow full) of Triple 8 Fertilizer. You can find it usually at Walmart Garden Center too. This will keep them happy for up to a year in the same pot (planter). You will havta repeat this process 1ce a year. Don't throw out the old soil tho. You can use it in other parts of your garden or around shrubs or tree beds or just sprinkle it over your lawn. Hope this helps. :)
Bring in if it is going to extremely cold or cover with plastic
water at least twice a month checking the soil I try to collect rain water but they like this when it rains just make sure you have proper drainage so they don't sit in it and get root rot
Ours are outside through summer n winter. I dont do anything but let them grow. I live in south Bit do have pretty cold winters. They are planted in ground, not in pots
Cactus love well drained soil (like cactus mix)...such as a pot with a shallow saucer (1/2 inch) water from the top occasionally (about once a month in winter and every other week in spring, once a week in high summer) They like the heat and can do well in partial shade (like under a mesquite tree).
To start from a "cutting".. Let the cutting sit and seal over (about 10-15 days) then plant in a pot of cactus mix, water really well and leave alone for about 4 weeks before watering again... the reason that you let the bottom seal... is so the moisture inside the cactus does not "leach" out into the surrounding soil.... the new roots will for at the dirt line.. not where the new plant was cut off from the old plant... it is best to take cuttings in the fall... and let root over the winter... so they are ready for the heat of summer.
watering also depends on the humidity in the atmosphere -- if you live in a very humid area, water less -- if you live in an extremely dry area, mist more frequently. Just be sure they have excellent drainage and a sharp potting mix -
The great thing is, if you give them thee right growing conditions e.g. plenty of sun, no frost / snow, and the concessional drink if it has been really dry. They just take care of themselves.

Cacti love lots of sun and to be LEFT ALONE. 1 Tablespoon of water per MONTH poured directly on top of each plant. Easy. That's it.
If you have to bring them inside, switch to 1 teaspoon of water per plant monthly.

Here in the desert it can freeze at night in winter. All cacti that grow here do very well wether potted or inground.
