How do I ID a bush, I planted and now don't remember what it is?

This bush has big leaves, and when I break a leaf off it has a spicy scent, sort if like something you might use in cooking. Is there a site that one can post a picture and get an accurate name for them?

It looks like a Bay Leaf. You might want to try a local university website if you're planning on using it in cooking.

I'm sorry about your loss. It looks like your plant is thriving. If you plant on cooking with it, I'd get it ID'd at a local extension service or college. Make sure it's safe. Some people like to make wreaths of them and keep them handy in their kitchen.

Take a leaf and a twig to a local nursery along with a good picture. Someone should be able to tell you

We really don't have a nursery around. We have places like Home Depot or Lowe's but they don't have a clue

There's a great app- LeafSnap that will identify plants with just the snap of a picture!

I don't know a website to identify the plant, but it looks like Florida anise - Illicium floridanum

Common Names: Florida anise, purple anise, stink-bush, star-anise

Does the sap smell like licorice?

I sure can't help, but it is a good spreader, I see. I would take a piece to my Nursery.

It does have a destint smell but even having a nose like bloodhound, like I did , I just can't put my finger on it. It's not a licorice smell and there are no star anise on it. It's a tosh up in my mind of either bayleaf or anise?

Could it be an Oleander? The leaves appear similar to that if that isn't what it is. Beware, Oleanders, while pretty & Hardy, they are very toxic to both humans & pets if ingested & we all know how pets like to chew on plants & wood.

There is an Ap called PlantNet for the smart phone. You take a photo of it and searches the database for a match. It's in beta version so it's a hit and miss. Worth a try.

From this distance... Laurel? Rhododendron? Need a FULL view of shrub for better idea, but leaf closeup was a good idea, too.
