I don't know a website to identify the plant, but it looks like Florida anise - Illicium floridanum
Common Names: Florida anise, purple anise, stink-bush, star-anise
Does the sap smell like licorice?
I sure can't help, but it is a good spreader, I see. I would take a piece to my Nursery.
It does have a destint smell but even having a nose like bloodhound, like I did , I just can't put my finger on it. It's not a licorice smell and there are no star anise on it. It's a tosh up in my mind of either bayleaf or anise?
Could it be an Oleander? The leaves appear similar to that if that isn't what it is. Beware, Oleanders, while pretty & Hardy, they are very toxic to both humans & pets if ingested & we all know how pets like to chew on plants & wood.
There is an Ap called PlantNet for the smart phone. You take a photo of it and searches the database for a match. It's in beta version so it's a hit and miss. Worth a try.

I have a plant that looks like it. It has little white flowers. Mine is a tea olive.
From this distance... Laurel? Rhododendron? Need a FULL view of shrub for better idea, but leaf closeup was a good idea, too.
