You can add some Epsom salts to the surface soil of your plants at least once a month. Egg shells take forever to break down so I only put them around my hostas to deter the slugs. You can throw them into your compost and they will break up over time but never disappear.

Many people put dried egg shells in a blender and blend into a fine dust. But apply just a dab as too much calicum can cause nutrient lock out. The amount you apply also depends on if the plant is in a container and if so what size of container?

If you put them in the blender or food processor and make them into a powder the calcium releases into the soil much faster. The finer the better. My grandmother used to use Epsom salts when she planted her tomatoes and didn't give it more, but still had fantastic plants every year.

tomatoes and peppers will love you! I was told 10 days between each feeding. Some gardners only do it once a month.

we save ALL egg shells during the year, and when growing season starts, we give every plant outside a bunch of shells - crushed into small pieces of course. dont worry about them breaking down, this will turn into calcium for the plants, but even better it deters those little critters that love to munch on them at night. be careful with Epsom. best to use 1 TSP in a gallon of water and use only sparingly during the month.
