REAL Pruning is in the summer of the Following Year..after the Hydrangea is Blooming & all Leafed out..THAT is when you remove dead brown Canes from it..

You can also SAVE Dead Heads THIS Year.. for Bouquets & Side table displays..When Blooms are spent & Brown, Cut them at an angle with a SHARP Snipper, You MUST NOT CUT any Further, leave a small stem, no longer than 6" ( Inches) on them.. Spray with a Fixative, found in most Craft Stores.. Voila' You now have a Nice "Bouquet" to use as a centerpiece in the Fall or on a side table..You can ALSO Color them to match your decor, with a Non Toxic Colored Spray Fixative.. :) Have Fun, & Snip up your banana Peels & work into Soil 5-7" away from Main Bush in the top 2" of soil in the Fall..They LOVE the Potassium & You will get Prize winning Blooms!

Hi I live in the U.K. And don't deadhead until after the last frost at the end of winter. Cut right back to a bud/leaf joint in spring. Get beautiful blooms with this method.
