Hello! Potatoes take between 70 and 120 days. Typically wait til the foliage dies and then dig up one or two potatoes. Rub the skin of the potatoes between your fingers. The skin will not come off easily when the potato is ready to harvest.
I too, was told to wait until the foliage dies off, still waiting to see if my trashcan potatoes will give me potatoes, got great plants!
Fall is typically the time to harvest root vegetables, including potatoes. Store them in a cool dry place.
Autumn is typically the best time ;)
