How to grow and propagate succulents?

I am trying to grow and propagate succulents but they seem to die It doesn’t matter if I don’t water them much or I water them to much. And what is th best soil for them. Also I would like to gro catnip for my cats and I know nothing groined them

Been using the Miracle Gro Cactus, Palm and Citrus soil for years and my succulents that I bought from https://orchidrepublic.com seem to like it. I also added some perlite for a faster draining mix.
