I have a poinsettia plant which I planted in pot will it survive?

No reason it shouldn't. All the ones for sale during the holidays are potted. They don't like wet feet, so water well when it starts getting dry, if you pay attention the leaves start to sag. Do get all the roots wet, but drain extra water away from the plant. To make it red for the holidays, decrease light hours, or put in a closet several hours a day. This takes a few weeks.

Keep it warm and well watered and it will thrive. Don’t over water or the roots will rot.
