um when they are ripe
The really ripe fruits will drop from the limbs..when you see a few on the ground under the tree, try picking a few and see how easy a pick they are.

Sorry for the double entries....my internet service is hicupping.....what type keeps disappearing.......
When they are ripe. Lemons and limes should feel heavy for their size. Might be a bit too early for peaches and apples though, pluck one off and eat it, that will let you know when to harvest. Once you have had a few harvests, you will get the hang of it.
I leave the lemons and limes on the tree till I need them, or till they start dropping on their own. I give away a bunch fresh and zest and juice the rest in ice cube trays for future use. Nothing like a glass of lemonade or limeade in the middle of winter.
Peaches will also feel heavy for their size and smell wonderful. Around here apples start to be ready from September through November.
