I live in zone 8a for gardening. Can I grow jasmine plants and vines

According to the Department of Agriculture, most jasmine plant vines grow best in zones 9 and 10. There are some plants that are hardier than others, though, so you might want to check at a nursery in your area to see if they have a hardier jasmine plant that they sell and that they know will thrive in your zone.

My girlfriend in Asheville, NC, zone 7a grows jasmine quite successfully. There they treat it as an annual. She has trimmed and placed in pots and wintered over in her garage. Where I live it can get down into the 20's and even teens occasionally, but not for any great length of time. I would visit a proper nursery and see what they may have to offer and give it a try. Keeping my fingers crossed that you find something! ☺

I live in zone 9 & I was told that you can go easily 1 zone up or down, sometimes even more.

I live in 7b now but grew up in 8a. It grows very well in both zones. Some would say it grows too well, as it spreads quickly and easily and can get out of control if you don't keep it trimmed back.

some native plants are not a true Jasmine, but a Jessamine - such as our yellow variety in eastern NC - not the fragrant variety most people think it is
