I want to remove bushes along the back line of property/backyard

If I remove them, how long do I have to wait before planting something else in their place? I have six large flaming bushes and would like to go with an evergreen, like an arborvitae.

If you hire a company to remove them make sure that they also grind up all roots that remain then it shouldn't be a problem to plant bushes. If you plan on doing it yourself then you must deal with roots which if healthy may damage new bushes choking out the roots they are trying to develop.

You will not have to wait unless your soil has been infected.

Word of caution to use before deciding on arborvitae. They have developed a disease in recent years leading to many to change there minds.FYI

If you remove them and dig out the roots you can plant right away. There is no waiting time. I have dug out large Mugo pine bushes and planted arborvitae right away.

ou need not wait unless there is disease. If roots are still present, hack at them with an ax, they will eventually decay. I would use the opportunity to amend the soil and really loosen the dirt in the surrounding area. His will help the roots in the new bushes get established.

Think twice if you have deer..they can demolish a hedge of arborvitae in a season. Ever see a row that looks like only the top is growing...that's deer damage.
