Where in the world is the north shore??? To find out if a fig tree (many kinds) will grow find your growing zone....
Check with a LOCAL nursery.... they will tell you if Fig trees will do well in YOUR area.... and the variety or varieties that do best there.

I have 3 in my yard in Southern CA. My girlfriend in Asheville, NC has one, hers took 5 - 6 years to fruit.
North Shore Area where? Call you local extension service/master gardeners and ask for what grows best in your area (wherever that is).
