I'm no herbologist, but it looks like it could be one of the following three: Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica or Cannabis ruderalis;. Like I said I am no herbologist, obviously!

  • To me, certainly a tree of some sort. I would take this photo to a local nursery for proper plant identification. And keep it in a pot till big enough to plant in your yard. You will need to repot periodically as the tree grows . . . Nature and animals at work. I have ended up with many a plant this way.

One mans weed is another mans tree. Looks like something from the elm family. Let it grow and it will eventually tell you what it is. BTW very few weeds have serrated leaves.

Probably some native tree or shrub. Wait and see. Google it.

Not a pepper, but not sure what it is. Like others have suggested, take a picture to a nursery, or other plant specialist. A lot of times I take those little mystery plants and leave them in a pot until I can decide if I consider something to keep or compost

I have them all over the place -- its a weed - that will grow strong and take over the yard -

  • Karen Willard Karen Willard on Apr 19, 2017

Well since a weed is anything you don't want wherever it's growing only you can decide if it's a weed or not.

  • Deb Deb on Apr 19, 2017

I agree with DB1106. Dump it!

I agree with Joann, it looks like a hibiscus. I just took your picture out to my hibiscus in my yard and compared them and they are very very close if not exactly alike. I would take to a nursery and compare or place in a larger pot and see if you get blooms.

Not a hibiscus. I left them in the pot and nothing bloomed, It just got bigger

Thanks all for the info. I think I will let it grow in the pot, because a neighbor gave this to me. He thought it was from a japalino pepper plant.

Oh well, I will see what happens in a couple of weeks.

I have a weed (a.k.a indigenous plant) that I trim ...It is contained between my porch and sidewalk, so it doesn't spread. I leave it because it is essentially a small tree and looks better than some non-indigenous plants I have tried unsuccessfully to grow. Some of my gardener friends laugh at me, others say it looks good...I like it. :) I was told it is a type of potato vine. I make sure it isn't spreading under the sidewalk, and cut it back each fall.

I think if it is pretty and you like it, keep it growing.
