Did not plant spinach this year....but this popped up....I planed some last year too late that never sprouted. Is this spinach? Or a weed? I don’t want to get sick.

NOT a weed -- looks TOO educated -- must be the sinach. Take a few leaves to your nursery they can tell you right off!

The help desk at your cooperative extension could help.

Sometimes a hands on examination is best. I would highly suggest contacting your cooperative extension. These offices are manned by volunteer master gardeners on site there waiting to answer the communities questions that know your local situation quite well.

Master gardeners are required to volunteer back designated hours ( plus continuing education) each year to maintain MG certification -this community outreach and education is their goal.

It’s a weed. Spinach has much darker rich leaves and they are not that big. Spinach usually grows in a clump this weed is spreading leaves.

Is there a bulb at the bottom of the leaves? If so what color? Red or white could be radish. Purple and white could be turnip.

Or take it to the Extension office.
