My bulbs never bloomed- can anyone help?

I planted over 100 bulbs, and only about 10 bloomed. The bulbs were still in the ground, what could have caused them not to bloom?

Hi Sue, At first I was going to say that your local critters got them. But, if they're still in the ground, maybe you didn't plant them deep enough and the frost got them. I'm also wondering how old the bulbs were to begin with. Good luck.

Are the bulbs soft and mushy? If so, they may have frozen. Were they planted to the proper depth? Can you get replacements from wherever you bought them from?

were the bulbs old? Also not to condescend but did you plant them correctly? There is a root side and a stem side.

I always add a TBS of bone meal when I plant bulbs.

Perhaps they were planted in a summer season, and next yr. they will be just fine to bloom. Do not water them, or over water them, for they are resting. Just get more, for next yr., and keep on adding for a new yr. to come. Enjoy, Judy.

Also, some flowers will really bloom one year, and then lightly bloom, the next, so it is resting at this time, and then all will be just fine in the spring. It depends on your state, and climate as well. J.

Squirrels will eat tulip bulbs. They also may be planted too deep

More than likely planted too deep. The bulbs are still in the ground. Thank you.

After bulbs bloom, you have to wait till the vegetation turns brown before cutting off. If you don't wait, the plant doesn't get the energy or nurishment it needs to produce flowers the following year. Some people fold the vegetation over and tie with a rubber band until the plant has turned brown before removing it. It looks weired, but less messy that way.
